Why Are Squishy Toys So Popular in 2026?

If you've spent any time scrolling through TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, or Facebook, you've probably come across adorable squishy toys being squeezed, stretched, collected, or unboxed.

From cute animal squishies to miniature food-shaped toys, these soft and satisfying collectibles have captured the attention of kids, teenagers, and even adults.

But what exactly makes squishy toys so appealing, and why are they continuing to attract attention in 2026?

The answer goes beyond their cute appearance. Squishy toys combine satisfying textures, playful designs, collectible appeal, and the kind of visually engaging experiences that people love sharing online.

Whether you're discovering squishies for the first time or already have a growing collection, there's plenty to love about these little toys.

Let's explore why squishy toys are so popular in 2026 and what makes them such an entertaining toy trend.

What Are Squishy Toys?

Squishy toys are soft, squeezable toys designed to compress when pressure is applied. Depending on the material, some slowly return to their original shape, while others spring back almost immediately.

They come in an incredible variety of designs, including adorable animals, miniature foods, colorful characters, holiday decorations, and imaginative creations.

Some squishies are made from slow-rising foam, while others use rubber-like materials, silicone, or thermoplastic rubber (TPR). Each material provides a slightly different texture and squeezing experience.

Unlike traditional action figures or hard plastic toys, squishies offer a hands-on experience that makes them fun to touch, squeeze, and collect.

If you're curious about the different styles available, explore the cute and playful toys at Trendora.

1. Squishy Toys Are Incredibly Satisfying to Squeeze

One of the biggest reasons people enjoy squishy toys is the way they feel.

There's something oddly satisfying about pressing a soft toy between your fingers and watching it return to its original shape.

Some squishies feel smooth and stretchy, while others have a soft, dough-like texture. Slow-rising squishies offer an especially interesting experience because they gradually expand after being squeezed.

This tactile experience makes squishy toys appealing to people who enjoy keeping their hands busy.

Whether you're watching television, taking a break from homework, or simply relaxing at home, squeezing a squishy can be an enjoyable activity.

While some people find repetitive squeezing calming, squishy toys are not a substitute for professional treatment of anxiety or other medical conditions.

Their appeal is simple: they're fun to touch, entertaining to squeeze, and enjoyable to play with.

2. Social Media Makes Squishy Toys Easy to Discover

Social media has changed how people discover new toys.

Instead of learning about products only through television commercials or store displays, shoppers can now discover toys through short videos, product demonstrations, and creator recommendations.

Squishy toys are particularly well suited to short-form video.

A colorful squishy being slowly compressed and released creates an instantly recognizable visual experience.

Videos showing mystery squishy unboxings, miniature toy collections, and satisfying squeezing demonstrations can be entertaining even without dialogue.

Platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, and YouTube Shorts make it easy for viewers to discover these types of videos.

For shoppers, watching someone demonstrate a squishy toy can also provide a better idea of its size, texture, and appearance than a photograph alone.

That combination of entertainment and product discovery helps explain why squishies fit so naturally into online toy culture.

3. Cute Squishy Toys Are Fun to Collect

Another reason squishy toys attract attention is their collectible appeal.

Many squishies feature adorable faces, colorful designs, and miniature shapes that make people want to collect more than one.

Imagine building a collection filled with tiny hamburgers, smiling cupcakes, playful kittens, colorful bears, and other imaginative characters.

Each new squishy adds something different.

For children who enjoy collecting toys, squishies offer opportunities to organize collections by color, character, theme, or size.

Some collectors enjoy displaying their favorites on shelves, while others prefer using them as desk decorations.

Mystery-style squishy toys can make collecting even more exciting because buyers don't always know which design they'll receive.

4. Food-Shaped Squishies Are Especially Adorable

One of the most entertaining squishy toy styles is the miniature food squishy.

These toys transform everyday foods into colorful, squeezable collectibles.

Popular design themes include hamburgers, donuts, strawberries, cupcakes, ice cream cones, and other familiar treats.

What makes food squishies so appealing is their combination of realistic inspiration and exaggerated cuteness.

A miniature hamburger with a smiling face or a colorful cupcake that can be squeezed is both funny and adorable.

Food squishies also fit naturally into imaginative play.

Children may enjoy using them alongside pretend kitchens, toy restaurants, or miniature food collections, provided the toys are age-appropriate.

For collectors, food-themed squishies offer an almost endless range of creative designs.

5. Squishy Toys Appeal to More Than Just Kids

Although squishy toys are often associated with children's play, their appeal isn't necessarily limited to younger audiences.

Teenagers may enjoy collecting cute squishies, decorating their desks, or sharing toy videos with friends.

Adults may enjoy novelty squishies as playful desk accessories, small gifts, or collectibles.

The wide variety of styles means that different people can find designs that match their interests.

Someone who loves animals might prefer a kitten-shaped squishy, while a food enthusiast might choose a miniature donut.

Others may simply enjoy the soft texture and repetitive squeezing experience.

This broad appeal is one reason squishy toys can work as birthday gifts, stocking stuffers, party favors, and small surprises.

6. Mystery Squishies Make Unboxing More Exciting

Surprise-based toys have a special appeal because they combine collecting with anticipation.

Mystery squishies take that excitement and turn it into a playful discovery experience.

Instead of knowing exactly which toy is inside the package, the buyer gets to reveal the surprise.

For children, opening a mystery toy can be almost as exciting as playing with the toy itself.

The experience can also encourage collecting, particularly when a product line features multiple characters or designs.

Mystery squishies are especially entertaining in advent calendars, where children discover a new surprise each day leading up to Christmas.

For families planning their holiday shopping, squishy countdown calendars can provide a fun alternative to traditional candy-filled advent calendars.

7. Squishy Toys Make Fun, Affordable-Style Gift Ideas

Not every memorable gift needs to be large or complicated.

Sometimes a small, playful surprise can bring just as much excitement.

Squishy toys are appealing gift options because they come in a variety of sizes, themes, and designs.

Depending on the product and price, they may work well as birthday surprises, Christmas stocking stuffers, party favors, classroom rewards, or small gifts for friends.

A cute squishy can also complement a larger present, adding an extra playful touch.

For holiday shoppers, themed squishies can make festive additions to gift baskets and Christmas countdown activities.

When choosing a squishy as a gift, always check the recommended age range and product safety information.

8. Squishy Toys Are Perfect for Satisfying Videos

Another reason squishies attract attention online is their visual appeal.

People enjoy watching objects being compressed, stretched, or transformed, especially when the movement is smooth and repetitive.

Squishy toys naturally lend themselves to these demonstrations.

A slow-rising foam squishy, for example, can create an interesting visual as it gradually returns to its original shape.

Bright colors, miniature designs, and adorable characters make the videos even more entertaining.

Some creators film close-up demonstrations, while others produce collection tours, unboxing videos, or comparisons between different squishy textures.

These videos can help viewers discover toy styles they might not have encountered otherwise.

For people who enjoy creating short videos, squishies also provide opportunities for playful and creative content.

9. Squishy Toys Come in So Many Different Styles

One of the best things about squishy toys is their variety.

There isn't just one type of squishy.

Some are shaped like animals, while others resemble desserts, cartoon-inspired characters, holiday decorations, or miniature everyday objects.

Different materials also provide different squeezing experiences.

Slow-rising foam squishies gradually expand after being compressed. Rubber-like squishies may feel more elastic, while some silicone designs have a smooth, flexible texture.

This variety gives shoppers the opportunity to choose toys based on appearance, texture, or collectible themes.

It also makes squishies interesting for people who enjoy discovering unusual and creative toy designs.

10. Squishy Toys Fit Into the Growing Interest in Playful Collectibles

Collectible toys have long been part of popular culture.

From trading cards and miniature figures to mystery boxes and character merchandise, people enjoy discovering, organizing, and displaying collections.

Squishy toys fit naturally into this tradition.

Their small sizes, imaginative designs, and tactile qualities give them an identity that sets them apart from many traditional collectibles.

They're not simply toys to look at. They're also toys that can be squeezed and handled.

This combination of collecting and interactive play helps explain their continued appeal.

As shoppers discover new designs through social media and online stores, squishies remain an accessible way to explore playful collectibles.

What Types of Squishy Toys Should You Look for in 2026?

If you're thinking about starting a squishy collection, there are several styles worth exploring.

Animal squishies are ideal for people who love cute kittens, puppies, bears, bunnies, and other adorable creatures.

Food squishies feature playful designs inspired by hamburgers, donuts, cupcakes, fruits, and desserts.

Slow-rising squishies offer a distinctive squeezing experience as the material gradually returns to its original shape.

Mini squishies are compact collectibles that can be fun to organize and display.

Mystery squishies add surprise and anticipation to the collecting experience.

Holiday squishies feature festive designs that can make entertaining seasonal gifts.

The best choice depends on your personal preferences, the age of the recipient, and the type of texture or design you enjoy.

Are Squishy Toys Safe for Kids?

Squishy toys can be enjoyable for children when they're selected and used appropriately.

However, not every squishy is suitable for every age group.

Some miniature squishies are small enough to present choking hazards, particularly for children under three years old.

Parents should always check the manufacturer's age recommendations, safety warnings, and material information before purchasing.

It's also important to inspect toys regularly for tears, leaks, loose pieces, or other signs of damage.

Children should not put squishy toys in their mouths unless the product is specifically designed and labeled for that purpose.

For younger children, adult supervision is especially important.

Choosing age-appropriate toys helps make playtime safer and more enjoyable.
